The Valencia Water Reclamation Plant, a part of the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District, was upgraded to provide advanced treatment. It is one of two reclamation plants that discharge wastewater into the Santa Clara River, the last natural river in Southern California, which flows through Fillmore, Santa Paula, and the Oxnard Plain to the Pacific Ocean.

In the early 2000s, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board ordered the Sanitation District to remove chloride from the treated wastewater that was discharged to the river because the chloride was deemed to be harmful to salt-sensitive agriculture downstream.

To meet the State’s requirements, the Sanitation District added $87.3 million in advanced treatment facilities to the Valencia Water Reclamation Plant. The advanced treatment project utilized Style W77 AGS Flexible Couplings on DIP. The AGS couplings feature a wider, wedge-shaped groove that facilitates proper coupling positioning by decreasing initial installation sensitivity. The large diameter couplings are manufactured with fusion bonded epoxy designed specifically for use on the water and wastewater systems for buried pipe.
