Barrel Nipple

What Is a Barrel Nipple?

A barrel nipple is a short piece of pipe with a male thread (usually tapered) on both ends.

What Is the Difference Between a Barrel and a Hexagon (Hex) Nipple?

A barrel nipple is made from a section of pipe, whereas a hex nipple is a moulded fitting with a six or sometimes eight-sided section in the middle, between the threads.

Hex nipples are usually more compact than barrel nipples and they also give something for the user to grip whilst tightening.

What Types of Threads Does a Barrel Nipple Have?

All barrel nipples will have male threads. As barrel nipples are made from a piece of pipe, any thread specification, such as BSP, NPT etc., can be cut into it. Threads on a barrel nipple tend to be tapered rather than parallel.
